Symposium "Trends in Essential Dimension"Symposium at the Institute of Mathematics, University of Basel, December 17, 2009
This symposium is intended for mathematicians interested in the fields of group theory, representation theory, algebraic groups, algebraic geometry, quadratic forms, central simple algebras, invariant theory, moduli spaces and related topics, the unifying theme being the notion of essential dimension.
The symposium focuses on trends and new techniques in essential dimension.

Organization: Giordano Favi and Roland Lötscher Workshop "Invariant Hilbert schemes and wonderful varieties"Workshop at the Institute of Mathematics, University of Basel, September 28 - 30, 2009
This workshop is aimed at bringing together people interested in, learning about and researching in the narrowly linked fields of invariant Hilbert schemes and wonderful varieties. Talks of researchers in the area are complemented by two mini-courses taught by M. Brion and D. Luna.
There will be probably some funds for the participation of Ph.D. students and post-docs (request for support prior to August 1, 2009).
